Spring in Illinois

Investigating the Wood Pile

Mrs. Hock's Dental Radiology Class

Closely watching Becky

Alma observing Dr. Ritter

Alma arrived in Woodstock, Illinois rested and ready for new adventures. Harry, the resident Airedale, was intrigued and wanted to be friends with Alma from the moment he set eyes on her. Luckily, Alma had a space reserved for her on the mantel of the fireplace – one of the few Harry-proof locations in our home. Alma and Harry spent time together playing outside every opportunity they had. They romped in the green grass and dandelions, sure signs that spring has arrived in Illinois. Harry showed Alma his wood pile – a favorite place for exploring, climbing and finding scents left by other visitors.

Alma spent a day with the dental hygiene students at Harper College in Palatine, IL. In the morning, she attended Mrs. Hock’s Dental Radiolgy class with the students. Having recently sat for their eight hour written National Boards Exam and getting ready to take their NERBS examination in preparation for graduation, the students enjoyed the distraction of Alma’s visit.

During the afternoon clinical session, Alma was able to observe Becky, a second level student, providing dental hygiene care. Alma learned about biofilm and how to brush and floss to remove the biofilm to prevent decay and gingivitis.

Next, Alma visited the office of David P. Ritter, DDS. What a good dog! She sat quietly and watched attentively while Dr. Ritter did a dental examination for Rex. Alma was an extremely quick learner and reminded Rex how important it is to floss everyday as Rex left the office.

All too soon, it was time to send Alma home. It was sad to say goodbye. Yet Alma’s visit will be remembered for all the fun, smiles and laughter that accompanied her visit. We look forward to following Alma’s journey and hearing about the memories that she creates with other lovers of Airedales.
